How To Have A Successful Personal Trainer Career

Submitted by: Chris Chew

As people become better educated about health and aesthetic issues, more and more are going to the gym to workout and keep fit. With the tremendous demand, gyms are sprouting up everywhere, especially in the developed countries where obesity is of great concern because of sedentary lifestyle.

Along with the growing health industry, the pool of fitness personal trainers and gym instructors is also growing in tandem. This is also due to the fact that that there are now more and more certifying bodies and of course, there will be more personal trainers getting certified.

If you are a personal trainer and want to have a successful career as one, a certification is just your ticket into the industry and obviously is not enough to make it good. But if you want to make a great career out of it, it will be very much dependant on you and your services. So do you want to be just an average trainer or do you want streams of clients with deep pockets waiting for you to train them? If you do, then you have to be a very good instructor with a good marketing savvy and very soon you will be well known through the best form of advertising, the word of mouth advertising.

If you are a good personal trainer or even a great one, you will have a very exciting career and can make a relatively comfortable living with your good income and at the same time, helping people to get fit and healthy. That is certainly very rewarding both financially and mentally.

As I mentioned earlier, getting your certification is only the beginning because almost all other gym instructors too have certifications. So what makes you stand out from the rest? Well, the answer is to be better at what you do and that people, especially potential clients can see what you are capable of.

So in order to do that, you will need to learn much, much more and invest far more time and even money educating yourself. You have to subscribe to credible journals to understand the unending development in the industry and new scientific breakthroughs in the health and fitness world. So go for far more education than your basic qualifications and you will be miles ahead of other trainers because of your knowledge and is able to impress clients when you discuss issues about the human anatomy, physiology, biomechanics of the human body and even sports medicine.

Next, good personal trainers are teachers, workout mates, motivators and even personal friends to their clients. In other words, good trainers must have excellent teaching skills, human relationship skills as well as high emotional quadrant. This is a major difference from all other trainers who simply work out their clients and then sit and wait for the next one to show up.

It is important to know this truth. Good personal trainers have clients waiting for them and not the other way round. They also command higher fees because their clients are willing to pay for their excellent services and knowledge. This is why you can see fees vary widely amongst trainer to trainer.

So if you lack the soft human skills, do not be afraid to invest in taking lessons to brush up your skill in these areas. Your investments will bring you untold returns throughout your personal training career!

If you want to succeed as a personal trainer, then you must have the dogged determination to continuously improve yourself. You can take it from me because I’ve been there and done that successfully.
